Stages of an Essay

1. Think.

And think.

And think.

And think.

2. Write.

And write.

And write.

And write.

3. Read what has been written.

"I seriously wrote that?"

"That will never do."

4. Despair.

5. Regroup.

6. Employ Little Brother's hair-plucking services.

7. Practice aim.

8. Refocus self on task at hand.

9. Blog about it.

Well, now you know what's been holding me up lately. Maybe if I ever get this thing finished I'll start posting again.

It's times like these I'm glad I'm a self-directed learner and I never was forced to write papers of any sort. I wrote so much on my own about what I was learning my mother saw no need to constrain me to assigned essays and thereby squelch my creativity. In fact, as a child I compiled books about my studies, so why should I have been limited to mere essays?

But now I am applying for a camp, and I must write an essay to turn in with the application.

Woe is me.

Dirty Laundry

Brother's new favorite playpen.

Hehe.

And I shall leave you with that, because I have nothing profound to say today!

Actually, I take that back. I do have one great thing to say.

Jesus loves you.

Very, Very Tired; or, You're Having a What?

I did not post yesterday. You were probably frenzied in a panic. You might have called the National Guard. For Olivia said she would post every day, and she did not. Therefore something must be terribly, terribly wrong.

I was not kidnapped, or away from home, or devoid of internet, or forgetful, or even without a topic about which to post (which is a first). I was just terribly tired. Tired tired. Exhausted, one might say. To the point that it took five minutes to comprehend one sentence in the book I was reading (it did not help that the characters were also very weary and in the dark), and scratching my nose was a chore.

I even went to bed at nine, which is the earliest I've gone to bed in years. I got up at eight thirty. Even after all that sleep, which is the most I can ever remember getting, I am equally tired today. My mother suggests I take a nap, but I do not like naps. Sleeping in the daytime is depressing, and scary.

All of this tiredness is the result of getting poison injected into one's body. Now, don't worry--this poison is for purposes medical*, and it is something that occurs regularly, and if you are curious you might get an explanation, but that is not the purpose of this post, and is irrelevant, so I will skip explanations for now, and this is turning into quite the run-on sentence.

So! Where was I? Oh, yes, tired. I was tired. Very much so. And you can probably tell I still am because of the way this post is written. Quite rambling, and not really making sense, and it's actually much easier to write when I'm like this because I'm too tired to care, ha!

Anyway. Because of all this poisony stuff, I was very, very tired. Yesterday I wanted to write a seriousish post, for yesterday was one year after my mother discovered that she was pregnant with her second child (I was the first... obviously), but at nine, my usual post-writing time of late, I went to bed.

So I'm trying to write it today. In Tiredese. Prepare yourself.

Actually, I'm too tired to write all of it. So I'll just start with the evening of August 12, 2010. I was in the living room on the computer, and my parents were in their room. Little did I know that my mother was taking a pregnancy test. The thought had never crossed my mind that my mother might have another child.

That is, until she entered the room right then. I knew, somehow, that she was about to tell me she was having a baby. As she asked me to sit on the couch beside her, I almost asked outright if that's what it was, but I didn't in case it turned out to be something really trivial.

So she told me. I don't think I said anything for several minutes. All I could do was laugh. My mother! Was having a baby!

The next several weeks were spent sitting around in shock. She went to the OB/GYN--and discovered she was twenty-five weeks along. Also, she was having a boy. My parents were adamant when I was in the womb that they wanted my gender to be a surprise, but this time, they said, they couldn't handle any more surprises.

It's hard to believe all that was a year ago. This is what we have now:

Well, not now now, because that picture was taken in June, but close enough.

*I'm not really sure why I switched those two words around. It just sounded cool. Actually, I tried to make that Latin, but I am not yet knowledgeable enough in the language, and I'm tired.

Vict'ry!

(In using an apostrophe and exclamation point in the title, I am distancing myself from ZNZ's very similar post. =P)

I just won. In the past thirty days, I bled and perspired and cried my way to 100 pages. Some of it was actually okay, and some of it was an embarrassment to screenwriting, that's what revision's for, right?

So now it's time to go watch a movie, relax, and celebrate. Congratulations to everyone who won! Here, have a virtual cupcake. Even if you didn't win, it's probably safe to say you've written more pages of script than most have. You get a cupcake for that too.

As I was typing this post, Christian fell asleep in my arms.

Gasp! Is It True? Could It Be?

Christian has grown a bit since my last post,
and even this photo is old.
Yes. You are looking at a post. A brand new post.

If you're a follower, odds are when this post showed up on your Blogger Dashboard you stared at it for a minute trying to make The House on the Rock ring a bell. It has, after all, been four months since that name has shown its face in your Reading List.

I'm a sorry excuse for a blogger. This is, what, the fourth or fifth time I've posted after a long absence?

At least I can say that I've fulfilled (most of) what I said in my last post. I said I was going to manage my time better to increase my productivity, and I daresay I have. Since my last post, I've read the Bible cover-to-cover in eighty-nine days, finished the first level of Latin, completed my highschool biology course in nine and half weeks and begun chemistry, scored a nice grade under a tough judge in a piano festival, entertained my baby brother countless times while my mom was on the phone or cooking dinner, and kept in touch with long-time friends.

Unfortunately, with all that busyness some things had to be neglected, and blogging was one of them. I need to take a breather now, however, especially seeing as I've caught a cold, which is a perfect excuse to spend more time blogging. I've already tweaked the layout a bit, and that new header is a very simplified representation of Portland Headlight I made in Paint.

Another area that's received far too little attention is reading and writing, which is excellent timing with Script Frenzy starting tomorrow! NaNoWriMo's sister event, "Screnzy" is a challenge to write 100 pages of script in the thirty days of April. It can be any sort of script--screenplay, stage play, TV or radio script, graphic novel, you name it. This is my third year, hopefully my third win, and also my third time adapting.

So tell me, are you doing Script Frenzy? Why or why not? If so, what are you writing?
And is the blog just too busy?

White Christmas

I hope each of you had a blessed day celebrating in the birth of the Savior. May the merriment of the season be with you throughout the year, for there is no improper time to rejoice in His love!

Christian got a new bouncer seat.

And a new pair of socks from our big cousin.

The tree was beautifully decorated.

There were lots of snowflakes.

His first ornament.

And my first.
(I broke it one year...oops.)

My friend gave me this lovely one a few years ago.

And, of course, the true meaning of Christmas--caroling chickens!
Ever since I can remember we've had this chicken coop chorus that clucks to the tune of Jingle Bells.

The actual true meaning of Christmas... though it's a bit hard to see Jesus.

Earlier in the day it rained, but as it grew darker and colder the rain turned to snow.

It was a historic day--the first white Christmas in the area since 1993, and the first white Christmas with a measurable amount of snow since 1882.

I'm not quite sure what the total was when it stopped snowing. I think a bit under three inches.
In 1882, there were point three inches.

I greatly miss life up North, so I welcomed the snow.

I made a snowball!
And threw it... blatantly missing my target. That's why I never played softball.

It was funny--and kind of just wrong--to see snow on the pampas grass.

The next day was wintry bliss.

Isn't it peaceful?

Lucy, on the other hand, was not thrilled at the snow. She ventured out of the shelter only to seek her meal.

TyTy wasn't fond of the snow either.

The dogs, however, loved it.

Icicles on the icicle lights!

...And I should probably quit now with the pictures.

And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:9-11
