I Am a Hostess

Dear reader, I am a victim of the dreadful rhinovirus.

In other words, I hab cod a coad.

Viruses are meanies. Really, don't they have anything better to do than pick on poor, innocent little girls?

That... that thing is infecting me. How rude!

Actually, it's sort of pretty... it's blue... and wavy... and it glows...

But I don't want it inside of me!

If you noticed an absence of posts over the weekend, that blue glowy thing the explanation. If you didn't notice the absence of posts over the weekend (more likely), shh! I didn't say anything.

I do believe, however, that I am recovering from this infection, and that my prognosis is fair. Odds are, I will survive. After all, if my research is correct, less than half of 1 percent of people afflicted with this illness die.

Still, there is that half of a percent...

Dirty Laundry

Brother's new favorite playpen.

Hehe.

And I shall leave you with that, because I have nothing profound to say today!

Actually, I take that back. I do have one great thing to say.

Jesus loves you.

Post of Shame

Olivia has a blog, doesn't she?

Oops. She forgetted. And now she is so ashamed she is writing in the third person, because it is shameful to say "I forgot", but speaking this way it sounds as though someone else forgot, not Olivia. Also, she is so ashamed she can't even use proper grammar--hence why she forgetted and not forgot.

So this is the post of shame.

Part of the reason for her absence is that she hasn't been able to think of anything to write about. Actually, that's probably the reason for every absence of hers. Nothing too big or exciting goes on in her life to blog about.

But then it occurred to her that nothing terribly big or exciting happens in the lives of most of the bloggers whose blogs she follows. They just write about the little things in life, for the most part. She's going to try to start writing about the little things, too. So for practice, here's a little thing that happened to her.

On the Monday of yesterweek, Olivia thirsted, so to quench her thirst she went on a quest for tea. Her quest took her to the far away Pantry in the land of Kitchen. In Pantry, she found that which she sought--Canned Tea. In fact, there were two Canned Teas, nestled peacefully together in their dwelling of a long, narrow cardboard box.

Olivia extended her arm through the open door of their house and groped for a Tea. But the two Teas held fast in the bottom of their box. She lifted the whole box, with her arm still inside, and carried it across the land of Kitchen to the high ridge called Counter. There she could set down the box and extricate the Teas inside.

But on the way she did not see the stealthy Empty Box that lurked on the Plain of Tile. It pounced, setting itself directly in the path of her feet.

She flailed her arms wildly in a desperate attempt to maintain her balance. Finally, with her free hand (for her other arm held still the box of Tea) she managed to grasp hold of the edge of Counter. Thus she righted herself, and proceeded to drink a Tea.

While she escaped, ultimately, the wrath of the Empty Box, it inflicted lasting wounds. A muscle in her torso, across her side, has been pulled, and pains her to some degree to this day. In time, however, this wound is expected to heal.

And so concludes the Tale of the Empty Box Attacking the Bearer of the Tea.

I Think This is the Title

So, I’m trying out this feature where you can post a blog post through email. I’m assuming the subject of the email becomes the title of the post, but I’m not really sure.

I don’t really have much to write, except that I have nothing to write. Last night working on Script Frenzy, I was so out of things to write my characters engaged in a philosophical discussion concerning the metronome. It was actually sort of interesting, and rather fun to write. And also painfully reminiscent of my own trials involving the metronome…

My metronome scene is pretty much wrapped up, and I’m not sure what to write next. I’m running out of characters to kill off. I guess that’s what I get for making them die in the backstory. I could write backstory, I guess…

Also, I’ve been looking through my NaNo manuscript. (And Outlook spellcheck told me “NaNo” isn’t a word. That is so not true. NaNo is totally a word. I shall add it to the dictionary.) In November, the scenes I believed profaned literature are upon reread actually not as horrific as I remembered, and some of them are quite witty. Almost good, even, ringing with the little truths in life that are often overlooked. One short scene which I had ended abruptly with the words, “Oh, this is so horrific I cannot go on,” was actually rather poetic. Another scene I had been so horrified with I rewrote it twice and made a note to cut the first take, I actually found to be best in its original form.

Unfortunately, the scenes which I had thought at the time were not so bad, were really, really bad. After reading them I thoroughly rinsed my eyes and consulted Poison Control. After explaining to them that no, by NaNo I did not mean NaNO3, they let me go with instructions to rinse again just in case and call my physician if I experienced anything out of the ordinary in regards to my vision.

The good news, though, is that in general throughout the month of November the quality of my writing increased, reaching its zenith around the time of the creation of my amoeba poem. This I found to be most pleasing. The blood, sweat, and tears I shed producing what I thought at the time to be utter drivel was not completely a waste. Only 70% of it was utter drivel.

(Okay, so I exaggerate. There was actually only a small portion of it that was entirely unsalvageable. The majority just needed major revision.)

What I fear, however, is how nonhorrific I think my Screnzy (which I also had to add to the spellcheck dictionary) is turning out to be. The vast majority of it I feel is actually tolerable quality for a Screnzy script. Which, if the same proves true as it did for NaNo, means what I’m producing is really quite atrocious.

This is getting long and rambling, and I’m pretty far behind in Screnzy and should be writing, so I should wrap it up. Those of you doing Screnzy, how are you doing? And those who did NaNo, did you find your novel better or worse than you remembered when you unearthed the manuscript from the bottom of the drawer?

Little Amoebae: A Poem

There are those November nights when it's one AM and you're ten thousand words behind in NaNo and you've stepped into a plot sinkhole and you have no idea what to write and so you word-war with a friend and set Write or Die on Evil Kamikaze mode and disable backspace and the result... is something like this:

Dear little ambaoae,
Dwelling in the pond skum
Do you ever seen the sky,
And do you ever come?
Oh, little amobae,
Dwelling in the pond floor,
Have you ever jumped up high,
And hit your head on the door?
lLittle tiny amoaebae,
All of you--aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Have you ever wondered
What word wrhymes with cousins?
Oh you little amoebae,
Dwelling in the pond scum,
The night draws nigh
And into the darkness I hum.
Invisible little amoebae,
Well, I suppose sometimes you're bidg enough to see
But when I can see you with the naked eye,
Still how small are you compared to me?
Funny looking amoebae,
Changing shapes whenever you wish
Extracted by the scientist,
And plotpped onto a dish

Yeah. I worry myself too.

Let's Pretend This is a Profound Title

I've read to include a picture in every blog
post, so... this is my pony. =D
This is my thirtieth post. It's kind of pathetic, since I've had this blog since September, and many blogs would have reached that in the first month. I'm just such a dull person there isn't much to write about. =P

I'm thinking of setting up some sort of posting schedule, like doing a word of the week, or a classical piece of the week, or some nerdy fact. And maybe an interview or a guest post every so often. I thought about filming a vlog post with my webcam, but major awkwardness would ensue... so probably not. But I haven't completely ruled it out. What would you like to see? Do you have any suggestions?

Anyway, since I have nothing else to post about, I've decided to run a contest! The author of the seventy-fifth comment will receive... something. I haven't quite decided on the prize. I'll probably give a list of options for the winner to choose from. Suggestions are welcome for that too.

Also, two days until the Script Frenzy halfway point! How's everyone doing? I'm... way behind.
